The city where I was born – Araraquara – is located in the heart of the huge deep reddish soil area in South America known as Terra Roxa. In Portuguese the word roxa means means purple, but the Italian immigrants that arrived there at the beginning of 20th century called it rossa, red, and the Brazilians mistook it for roxa.
